Chatham County Superior Court

The Superior Court is Georgia's general jurisdiction trial court. It has jurisdiction over both criminal cases such as felony cases, divorce cases, equity cases and cases that involve a jury. For example, if you are charged with a misdemeanor or traffic violation but request a jury trial, you will be transferred to Chatham County Superior Court. 

Chatham County belongs to the Eastern Judicial Circuit, which consists of six judges. The Chief Judge is the Honorable Michael L. Karpf and his office can be reached at 912-652-7460. Judge Louisa Abbot, Judge James F. Bass Jr., Judge Penny Haas Freesemann, Judge John E. Morse, Judge Timothy R. Walmsley, and Senior Judge Perry Brannen are the other five judges of the Eastern Judicial Circuit. Chatham County State Court

Chatham County State Court prosecutes misdemeanors and traffic violations that occur in Chatham County but outside of the City Limits of Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Thunderbolt, and Tybee Island. There are three judges that preside over Chatham County State Court: Chief Judge H. Gregory Fowler, Judge Gregory V. Sapp, and Judge Hermann W. Coolidge. Bloomingdale Municipal Court

Traffic violation tickets that occur in Bloomindale will go before Bloomingdale Municipal Court. The Judge for Bloomingdale Municipal Court is the Honorable Tom Edenfield. Court is held in City Hall located at 8 U.S. Highway 80, Bloomingdale, Georgia 31302. Garden City Municipal Court

All cases that involve traffic violations occurring in Garden City will go before Garden City Municipal Court. Judge Tom Edenfield presides over Garden City Municipal Court. Thunderbolt Municipal Court

Chief Judge Willie T. Yancey and Associate Judge Thomas J. Mahoney, III preside over Thunderbolt Municipal Court. Court is held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Court is held on the second floor of the Thunderbolt Municipal Complex, Room 205, at 2821 River Drive, Thunderbolt, Georgia 31404.
