A thank you message to Georgia police officers and first responders

It was reported on WSBTV that a Fairburn Police Department has died of Coronavirus.  I am truly saddened to hear this news.

As a Georgia Criminal Defense Attorney, many people may misunderstand and think that I would have a bad relationship with the police.  Nothing can be further from the truth.  I have many police officer friends.

The police and first responders perform an essential role in our society.  My role is to make sure that their power is checked by the court system.  I am not against the police.  I am for the rights of those accused.  There is a significant difference.

Police officers and first responders put their safety on the line every day.  They work terrible hours and work under conditions that few of us would find acceptable.  No one is perfect, and we all make mistakes.  Pointing out the mistakes of others never implies a lack of respect or appreciation.  I respect and appreciate our police officers.

In these moments of hard times, let us all take a minute to reach out to someone and thank them for the job they are doing.  Whether it is a police officer, a firefighter, or a delivery person, our society cannot survive without these people.  Thank you very much!
